Students were so engaged in our science learning this week. We have been investigating how fast changes affect the Earth's land. We experimented with volcanoes, landslides, and earthquakes. On Friday students were given criteria for building a structure that could withstand an earthquake. They had twenty minutes to use 25 popsicle sticks, tape, and three pieces of cardstock to build their structure. Their structure had to be at least 30 cm tall and hold a pack of post it's without falling when their table was shaken for 10 seconds. Five of our eight groups were successful in the task!
Today students worked with a partner to try to build a marshmallow and toothpick tower. Their tower had to be 30 cm tall and stand on its own for 15 seconds. It was really challenging, but the students enjoyed it!
This week in science we are investigating matter. Today we compared houses made out of cotton balls and houses made out of Legos to see which was most sturdy and least destructible.
