Being proactive means the things we can control; reactive are the things outside of our circle of control. This week we learned Proactive things include: our words, actions, thinking, and body. Reactive things include: other's actions, words, thinking, bodies, the weather, and natural disasters.
Today the students discussed rules and routines for playing math games. Then they learned how to play Addition Top-It. Ask them about this game at home!
This week our class worked together to create a mission statement. We started by brainstorming things we felt were important for our class community. We then chose the six most important to us.
This week students had the opportunity to visit seven centers and practice using math tools. Students used rulers, calculators, pattern blocks, tangrams, unified cubes, number lines, and base ten blocks!
Dear Families,
If you did not receive an email from me Friday evening containing the attached newsletter, please contact me so I can update my email distro list. Thank you! [email protected] Please remember to make sure students eat a healthy breakfast each morning and come to school wearing tennis shoes! Students should also bring a healthy snack and bottle of water. Snacks will no longer be sold in the cafeteria.
I know the beginning of the school year involves a lot of paperwork. Please make sure to send in your child's spotlight as well as the student information sheet. Both should have been given to you in your registration packet. If you are missing either, please let me know and I will send home another copy! Please make sure students bring in a pair of headphones to use in the computer lab. If they have a pair from last year, those are fine. I am so excited to see the students tomorrow morning! They are a terrific group filled with tons of energy and so many unique personalities. I am so excited to get to know them in the next few weeks. It is going to be a great year! Mrs. Burger Dear Second Grade Huskies,
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! I am so excited to meet all of you! We are going to have so much fun this year getting to know each other. We will become a community of learners and leaders who care about one another, are respectful, and who want to achieve our personal best. I hope you are able to come to our Second Grade Popsicles in the Park at Creasey Mahan's Playground on Sunday, August 14th from 3-4pm. This is a fun way for us to meet and for you to see your other classmates. Harmony's Open House will be the next evening on Monday, August 15th from 5-7 pm. During this time you will have the opportunity to explore your new classroom. Our room number is 220 at the end of the blue hallway. I can't wait to see you soon! Love, Mrs. Burger |
